Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

Cosmetic Dentist Woodland Hills, Inlays, Onlays
Did you know that traditional fillings can reduce the strength of a natural tooth by up to 50 percent?

As an alternative, inlays and onlays, which are bonded directly onto the tooth using special high-strength resins, can actually increase the strength of a tooth by up to 75 percent. As a result, they can last from 10 to 30 years. In cases where the damage to the tooth is not extensive enough to merit an entire crown, Dr. Terteryan can place expert color matched porcelain onlays to restore the strength and aesthetic appearance of your teeth.

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are the perfect permanent restoration method when a tooth is severely damaged, decayed, or compromised aesthetically.

Traditional metallic crowns can leave your gum lines stained and discolor your smile. Dr. Terteryan can use Porcelain crowns to blend with the natural color of your teeth and eliminate the dark discoloration that metallic crowns create. Each crown is personally handcrafted and designed by Dr. Terteryan and his in house aesthetic lab technician to mimic your natural teeth and to ensure maximum light translucency and color. Not only are porcelain materials more aesthetically pleasing than their metallic counterparts, but they are also much stronger and healthier because they can be placed above the gum line.

Teeth Whitening

Cosmetic Dentist Woodland Hills - Teeth Whitening
Like fine china, teeth become dull and stained from a variety of factors including tobacco, coffee, colas, aging, red wine or tea. Dr. Terteryan can dramatically whiten your teeth in under an hour with the scientifically advanced ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System. The ZOOM! Chair side Whitening System is painless, safe, fast and effective.

It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. Then the proprietary Zoom! Whitening Gel is applied, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter, sometimes more in less than an hour. With proper care and an occasional touch-up at home, your whiter smile will sparkle for years.
We also offer home bleaching tooth whitening. With this system, you can whiten your teeth in the convenience of your own home.

Root Canal

A root canal treatment is a dental procedure that is performed when a tooth has become infected, irritated or swelled due to deep decay, a crack or chip in the tooth, or trauma to the face, among others. This procedure involves removing the pulp and nerve from the affected tooth so the tooth can be cleaned and sealed afterwards.

It is important to have this procedure done if your tooth requires it because the consequences of not doing it could be worse, such as extreme pain, swelling in other areas of the face, bone loss around the tooth, abscesses and more. Some people that need a root canal treatment do not present any symptoms, but the usual symptoms present are; severe toothache when chewing or biting, discoloration or darkening of the tooth, sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures, swelling or pimples in the gums nearby.

Bonding

Dental bonding is a treatment that uses a composite resin for a variety of general and cosmetic purposes. This material is ideal to restore chips, cracks, small fractures, fill in gaps and reshape a tooth. It also comes in many shades so we can match the natural color of your teeth. During the procedure, this tooth colored resin is applied to the tooth, shaping it in the desired way and then hardening it with a special light that attaches the material to the tooth. Dental bonding is one of the most versatile, least expensive and fastest method to improve a patient’s smile!

Bridges

Cosmetic Dentist Woodland Hills - Bridges
Dental bridges are one of the solutions in modern dentistry to replace a missing tooth. A bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and a false tooth is placed in between to fill in that gap. Bridges can be fixed or removable and are supported by natural teeth or implants.

There are three main types of dental bridges: Traditional bridges which involve creating a crown for the tooth on either side of the gap, with a pontic (false tooth) in between. Cantilever bridges which are used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth or teeth. Resin-bonded bridges which are made of plastic teeth and gums supported by a metal framework.

Our cosmetic dentist in Woodland Hills will recommend the option that best suits your particular case.

Gum Disease

Periodontal (gum) disease is a bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. It begins when dental plaque builds up in your teeth causing the gums to become inflamed. This is because plaque contains bacteria, which produce toxins that irritate and damage the gums. The mildest form of gum disease is called gingivitis, which causes the gums to become red, swollen and to bleed.

When gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis. This form of gum disease is more serious, and if it is not treated on time it case lead to tooth loss. In periodontitis the inner layer of the gum and bone pulls away from the teeth forming pockets which collect the debris in the mouth and become infected. The body's immune system tries to fight the bacteria as the plaque spreads but as this happens the bone and connective tissue that hold the teeth in place starts to break down. If the disease progresses, the pockets become more deep and more tissue is destroyed causing the teeth to loosen out and fall.

Tooth Extraction

Dentistry has evolved from the times where tooth extraction was commonly used to fix any dental problem. Today’s dentistry offers a wide range of treatments to save your tooth instead of having to remove it. Nevertheless, some cases may require a tooth extraction to avoid further complications or because your oral cavity requires it. If a tooth is fractured or seriously damaged by tooth decay and no other dental treatment can be applied to save it, an extraction will be needed.

When a wisdom tooth is impacted between the jawbone and the gum tissue an extraction will be necessary. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause permanent damage to nearby teeth, gums, and bone and can sometimes lead to the formation of cysts or tumors that can destroy sections of the jaw.

Some other reasons for tooth extractions include: extra teeth that block other teeth from coming in, patients getting braces may need teeth extracted to create room for the teeth that are being moved into place, and special cases like, people receiving radiation, cancer drugs, or organ transplant.
